International IDEA’s Democracy Tracker is an interactive, policy-oriented tool that monitors and assesses the state of democracy and human rights around the world.   

25 April 2023 marks the 49th anniversary of the Portuguese Democratic Revolution, also known as the Carnation Revolution, which put an end to 48 years of autocratic regime in Portugal. In celebration of this, International IDEA, in collaboration with the Embassy of Portugal in Stockholm, invites you to a discussion on the transition to democracy in Portugal and the lessons that can be drawn from it. Some of the questions that will be discussed are:

The International IDEA Tunis Office will hold its third edition of the “Moot Court Competition on the Limitation Clause and the Principle of Proportionality in the Tunisian Constitution”, under the project “Supporting the Application of Article 49 and Proportionality in Tunisia” funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.

A careful analysis of the determinants of civil wars and fragile democracy in Sudan attempts to point to a more complex picture in the country.

The Central Elections Commission (CEC), in cooperation with the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) and the Rule of Law Centre of Finland, will host on 14 December an interagency roundtable on crosscutting dimensions of digitalization of elections.
