In 2022, the Collins Dictionary selected “Permacrisis” as the word of the year for 2022. Permacrisis describes “an extended period of instability and insecurity”, highlighting that the world faces – and will continue to face- multiple crises: from pandemics to conflict. 

Securing Ukraine’s capacity to conduct future post-war elections in a free, orderly, and transparent manner will be vital for the continued integrity of its democratic governance and for the success of its recovery and reconstruction. One key challenge lying ahead of Ukraine will be to ensure the voting rights and opportunities for its displaced citizens, many of whom will be casting their vote from outside of Ukraine.

Gender equality is an integral part of thriving democracies, but few think of it as a prerequisite for democracy. At the same time, democracy is being undermined by the same forces that are pushing back on women’s rights, participation, and representation in public life. This event contributes and sustains the efforts to sustain gender equality on the global agenda for democracy. 

Thailand’s May 14 election has been one of the most closely tracked polls the country has ever held. The outcome will not be finalised for 60 days, but the campaign period as well as voting patterns and conduct of the poll are being carefully tracked.

This is the third edition of the high-level ministerial conference of East African states. This year's theme focuses on the role of regional economic communities REC's and regional mechanisms RM's in promoting youth, peace, and security agenda in the East African region.
