STOCKHOLM – The bedrocks of democracy are weakening across the globe, with half of countries suffering democratic declines ranging from flawed elections to curtailed rights, such as freedoms of expression and assembly, according to a new report by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), an intergovernmental organization headquartered in Stockholm.
The global state of democracy in 2023 is complex, fluid and unequal. Across every region of the world, democracy has continued to contract, with declines in at least one indicator of democratic performance in half of the countries covered in the Report.
The Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Justice and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistant through the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Programme, organised a National Stakeholders' Forum from October 24th to 26th, 2023, to evaluate the implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 and the Administration of Criminal Justice Laws of the various States in Nigeria.
