Many countries that are attempting to move away from strong presidential systems to more pluralist, aim to introduce balanced models where governments are accountable to parliaments rather than being subordinated exclusively to presidents.

As the second United Nations High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) is approaching, it is the pleasure of International IDEA and the Swedish Development Forum (FUF) to invite you to a seminar on the implementation, follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Do refugees have a place and a role in democracy? How inclusive is our democracy? How can we move from an emergency response to a long-term strategy? What is the role of refugees, governmental and non-governmental actors?
Money is one key factor in politics. Funding of election campaigns, political parties, lobbying groups or media on the one hand, the misuse of administrative resources on the other hand comes more and more under the focus of monitoring organizations and civil society, as in almost all countries politicians seem struggle to develop ways of financing political competition respecting democratic values.
On 13 -14 June 2017, International IDEA is hosting a round table discussion on Cybersecurity in Elections. The event, taking place in The Hague, will provide electoral management bodies (EMBs), cybersecurity agencies and experts from across Europe and the United States an opportunity to exchange experiences related to recent concerns about an increase in hacking attacks against elections.
