“Just because public financing of political parties is unpopular in Peru doesn’t mean it’s not important.”
“Que el financiamiento público de partidos políticos sea impopular en el Perú no quiere decir que no sea importante.” Con esas palabras, el Director para América Latina y el Caribe de IDEA Internacional, Daniel Zovatto, sugirió que se considere la aplicación de la ley peruana que ya prevé esa figura. “Nadie está pidiendo que se invierta y financie a los partidos solo con recursos públicos, tiene que haber un sistema mixto, con recursos públicos y privados”.

The International Seminar “Elections in Central America and Dominican Republic: evaluation of experiences and lessons learned” was carried out in San José, Costa Rica, on August 12, 13 and 14, 2014. It was jointly organized by International IDEA and the Costa Rican Supreme Tribunal of Elections, through the Institute for Education and Studies in Democracy (IFED).
Los días 12, 13 y 14 de agosto de 2014 se llevó a cabo en San José, Costa Rica, el Seminario Internacional “Elecciones en América Central y República Dominicana: evaluación de experiencias y lecciones aprendidas”, organizado conjuntamente por IDEA Internacional y el Tribunal Supremo de Elecciones de Costa Rica, a través del Instituto de Formación y Estudios en Democracia (IFED).
El encuentro es organizado por la Junta Central Electoral de República Dominicana e IDEA Internacional, en el cual especialistas de varios países latinoamericanos compartirán experiencias en tecnología aplicada a los procesos electorales con el propósito de tener un referente para la toma de decisiones de cara a los procesos electorales siguientes.

As Peru prepares for the coming regional and municipal elections, national and international experts will gather in Lima on 19 and 20 August for an international seminar on “Financing of Politics in Peru.” The aim is to analyze the role of money in politics, the role of political organizations in the country’s institutions and the financing of the current electoral campaign.
En momentos en que el país está próximo a los comicios regionales y municipales se reunirán en Lima, este 18 y 19 de agosto, expertos nacionales e internacionales en el seminario internacional “Financiamiento de la Política en el Perú”, para analizar el rol del dinero en la política y evaluar el papel de las organizaciones políticas en la vida institucional del país y el financiamiento obtenido en la actual campaña electoral.
2014 features an intense electoral agenda. In the first six months, four of the seven Latin American presidential elections expected this year took place. These have a strong Central American geographic focus (Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Panama), with the Colombian ballot as the only exception.

On 1 July 2014, IDEA continued its longstanding and fruitful cooperation with the Electoral Tribunal of Mexico by signing an MoU.
Through the years, various MoUs have been signed with the aim of strengthening electoral justice in Mexico and Latin America in general, with International IDEA´s support and technical expertise.

A Forum on Political Party Cooperation through Dialogue being held in Port au Prince, Haiti on 27–29 June aims to stimulate understanding of the importance of political party dialogue for identifying opportunities and strategies to overcome the challenges facing post-conflict democracies.
In context of IDEA’s support to the Africa Union Commission’s (AUC) Department of Political Affairs (DPA) and the IDEA-AU Joint Activity Plan (JPA), a project is currently being implemented to establish entry points to accelerate ratification of the African Charter on Democracy, Governance and Elections.
