Global State of Democracy Indices
The Global State of Democracy Indices (GSoD Indices) measure democratic performance at the country, regional and global levels across 30 hierarchically-arranged concepts. They do not provide a single index of democracy. The data coverage begins for many countries in 1975, and is updated annually. All scoring runs from 0 to 1, with 0 representing the lowest score across all countries and years for that index and 1 the highest.

You can use the menus on this page to filter the data to countries or regions of interest (in the upper menu) and measures of democratic performance (in the lower menu). This will produce graphs showing trend lines. You can download the graph as an image file ('Export graph chart'), or share a link to the graph you've created ('Share chart URL').
Using the button above the menu, you can also choose to display the filtered data as a table. Having displayed the data in this way, you will find links to download either the filtered data or the entire dataset below the table.
