Education for democracy
The resolution recalls previous General Assembly resolutions and Security Council resolutions that highlight the importance of cooperation between the United Nations and regional organizations. It acknowledges the efforts of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM in promoting partnership relations with the United Nations and its Member States, based on principles of sovereign equality, mutual respect, and mutually beneficial cooperation, as well as commitment to democratic values, rule of law, human rights, and fundamental freedoms.
Key aspects of the resolution include the recognition of GUAM's activities in promoting regional cooperation in various areas such as trade, economic development, energy, transportation, agriculture, disaster management, culture, science, education, public health, youth, tourism, sport, and countering various types of transnational criminal activities.
The General Assembly emphasizes the importance of strengthening dialogue, cooperation, and coordination between the United Nations system and GUAM. It invites the Secretary-General of the United Nations to engage in regular consultations with the Secretary-General of GUAM and encourages specialized agencies and components of the UN system to cooperate with GUAM.
The resolution requests the UN Secretary-General to submit a report on the implementation of this resolution at the General Assembly's seventy-ninth session and decides to include this topic in the provisional agenda of the seventy-ninth session.
