Federalism is a new concept in Nepal and many new words and terms related to federalism were only introduced during the country’s recent constitution-building process.

International IDEA has compiled this English–Nepali Glossary on federal terminology through citizen dialogues in an effort to come up with a shared definition of contested federal terms based on a common understanding.

The Glossary includes 82 terms, for which it provides detailed definitions and examples. It also features some terms not included in the English–Nepali Glossary of Federalism Terms. Both glossaries have been designed for use by Constituent Assembly members, students, researchers, academicians, politicians and the general public.
