Nyamdrel II: Support to Civil Society Organisations and Parliament of Bhutan

Support to Parliament of Bhutan and Civil Society Organisations

Nyamdrel II: Support to Civil Society Organisations and Parliament of Bhutan is a 36-month EU-funded project implemented by International IDEA. It aims to enhance democratization and sustainable development by improving the collaboration between Bhutan's Parliament and CSOs. The project focuses on boosting CSOs' abilities to engage with Parliament and participate in legislative processes, while also building the Parliament's capacity to support CSOs and improve public communication.

The project focuses on embedding the practices highlighted in the Parliament-CSO Collaboration Strategy and the parliament’s Communication Strategy into formal procedures. This includes standardizing public hearings and encouraging greater citizen engagement. The main target audiences are CSOs, the Parliament of Bhutan (both the National Assembly and National Council), and the CSO Authority (CSOA).

The project's timeline starts with an inception phase for activity reviews and discussions. The first year focuses on capacity building, training, and scoping studies. During the second year, emphasis will be placed on offering technical support for CSOs, the Parliament, gender empowerment groups, youth initiatives, and media activities, with a range of events scheduled. The third year will emphasize institutionalization through further engagements, workshops, and guideline development.
