Due to its location and topographical caracteristics, Uzbekistan suffers from water scarcity and risk of desertification, exacerbated by climate change. In addition, the country is exposed to seasonal flooding and drought (World Bank). A specific environmental concern refers to the progressive drying up of the Aral Sea, due to both natural causes and the diversion of waterways for irrigation.
