For the Total Vote statistics we used the data reported by Election Administration and Voting Survey (EAVS). We opted for this source because they produce official voter participation statistics, which is similar to the practices in other countries included in the Voter Turnout Database. Note that in the US there are many institutions which calculate voter turnout statistics.
