What are the key reasons for or against using open source systems?

Public available source code of operating systems and application servers favors transparency and code security; also the OSS are more flexible in regards of configuration options and integration with 3rd party components. It is worth noting that OSS is used with commercial support schemes such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
