International IDEA’s highlighted strategies for overcoming the barriers that women face in relation to political parties’ intra-party democracy processes, electoral systems and legislative frameworks, patriarchal socio-cultural contexts that perpetuate gender stereotypes and violence against women in politics, the negative media coverage of women generally and in politics in particular and the unequal access to political financing for women.
