Welcome to discussion and book launch at our headquarters

June 16, 2015

“From Turkey to Thailand, from Brazil to Bulgaria and from South Africa to Indonesia: countries around the world have in the past years experienced large scale citizen protests. These demonstrations have often been aided by the power of social media to convene people quickly and in large numbers. The ‘wave of anger’, as the Economist has called it, is often aimed at political parties and political leaders. All this has led some to even ask the (rhetorical) question: Is the party on its way out?”

Join us on 25 June 2015 from 1400-1600 at International IDEA headquarters to discuss the ways in which political parties can improve their responsiveness to citizens and for the launch of the new publication “Political Parties and Citizen Movements in Asia and Europe”. The authors Hai Hong NGUYEN, School of Political Science and International Studies, the University of Queensland, Australia and Sean O’CURNEEN CAÑAS, Secretary General of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, the Committee of Regions (EU) will participate.
