#United4Integrity: International IDEA joins a Global Anti-Corruption Campaign
International IDEA is pleased to announce its partnership with the United for Integrity campaign, an inspiring global and multi-sectoral initiative aimed at strengthening political integrity and restoring democracies. Spearheaded by the Alliance for Integrity and the Sector Programme Anti-Corruption and Integrity, and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the campaign unites leaders, organisations, and communities in the fight for fairness and accountability. International IDEA is excited to contribute to this effort, drawing on two decades of experience in promoting transparency and accountability in the area of Money in Politics.
Money plays a vital role in supporting the functioning of political parties, elections, and democracies. However, when left unregulated, it can undermine democratic processes, erode public trust, and exacerbate inequality. Designing effective systems to oversee the funding of political parties and election campaigns - commonly referred to as political finance - is essential for advancing anti-corruption efforts, safeguarding the integrity of political representation, and promoting sustainable democracy.
For over 20 years, International IDEA has been at the forefront of discussions on Money in Politics, leveraging its expertise to 1) Analyze global trends and produce comparative data, 2) Provide technical assistance to political finance oversight bodies and political parties, and 3) Convene policy platforms for peer-to-peer learning among leading practitioners. What’s Next? Building on this foundation, International IDEA is working on two exciting reports to be launched in 2025. First, “Combatting Corruption in Political Finance: Global Trends, Challenges, and Solutions” will examine ongoing regulatory gaps, implementation challenges, and good practices around the world. Second, “Political Finance in the Digital Age” will provide a detailed analysis of how online advertisements and expenditures by political actors challenge traditional regulatory frameworks. These upcoming reports aim to support the objectives of the United for Integrity campaign by driving informed discussions and strengthening global anti-corruption efforts.
