Statement on International IDEA in Peru

February 12, 2025

The Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) is an intergovernmental organization based in Stockholm, Sweden. It works in 35 countries and its institutional mandate is to support democracy worldwide. With regard to its work in Peru, the following should be noted:

  1. International IDEA has been working in Peru since 2002. The Institute has received funding from various international cooperation agencies, including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
  2. The acquisition of these funds has been adapted to the strict procedures of the cooperation agencies and to International IDEA's own standards.
  3. Likewise, International IDEA carefully fulfills its obligations before the Peruvian Agency for International Cooperation (APCI) and other Peruvian authorities. All its actions are subject to periodic internal and external audits. The same standards of control and transparency are applied to the implementing organizations of each project.
  4. The Institute collaborates with other institutions through various forms of cooperation, including co-organization, which involves the contribution of resources by both parties, and the execution of projects by implementing organizations. In no case have public offices or political organizations received funds managed by our institution.
  5. International IDEA has carried out activities with media and journalists associations, focusing on the development of specific tools to strengthen the right to information of citizens, without compromising the editorial lines of each media.

International IDEA reaffirms its commitment to the strengthening of democracy in Peru and the promotion of dialogue.
