Reflecting on the Chilean experience: Panel discussion on democratic transitions
On 3 October 2016, the Spanish version of "Democratic Transitions: Conversations with World Leaders” was launched in Santiago, Chile, in the presence of more than 100 participants from the public and non-governmental sector in Chile. The launch included a panel discussion focused on the lessons learned from the Chilean transition to democracy.
The panelists were International IDEA Secretary-General Yves Leterme; Sergio Bitar, former Chilean Minister of Education and Public Works and Board of Advisor member of International IDEA; Ricardo Lagos, former President of Chile, and one of the democratic transition leaders interviewed in the book; Mariana Aylwin, daughter of late President Patricio Aylwin (the first democratically elected President after the Chilean transition to democracy), and former Congress woman and Minister of Education; and Senator Juan Antonio Coloma, Chilean senator of the opposition party Unión Democráta Independiente (UDI).
