New course promotes effective political party dialogue

June 20, 2016

International IDEA and Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) have launched a new module to promote interparty dialogue.

Multiparty politics is not only about competition. It is also about seeking shared solutions for the benefit of a country and its citizens. However, even when political will exists, interparty dialogues often fail to deliver the desired outcomes. One of the main reasons for this is that participants and facilitators are not always equipped with the right dialogue skills and do not have the knowledge of key principles on how to best design and manage an interparty dialogue process.

To bridge the gap between the will to dialogue and actually realizing the intended outcomes is the main objective behind a new course jointly developed by International IDEA and the NIMD: The Interparty Dialogue Skills Training Module. The module is developed for political party assistance organizations to help politicians participate more effectively in interparty dialogue processes.
