The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) congratulates President-elect Donald Trump on his election as the 47th President of the United States. We also extend our congratulations to the United States, an Observer State of International IDEA, on a free, fair, peaceful and orderly election.
As one of the world’s oldest and most prosperous democracies, the United States has an important role in promoting the value of democracy and human rights across the globe.
With democracy under strain in many countries, International IDEA hopes the United States will continue to champion credible elections and civil liberties worldwide. We look forward to working with the incoming Administration, in collaboration with our Member States, to ensure democratic values are defended, supported and celebrated.
