International IDEA launches the Spanish translation of its website idea.int

February 15, 2024
The Spanish version of the website will increase International IDEA's reach within Spanish-speaking communities.

STOCKHOLM – The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) today presented the Spanish translation of its website dedicated to the millions of Spanish speakers around the world. Those interested in the work and results of IDEA International can visit www.idea.int/es to access content in Spanish, such as news articles, podcasts and publications that analyze various aspects of current democracy.

“The relaunch of www.idea.int in Spanish is the materialization of the new institutional strategy, which promotes the expansion and use of our digital footprint,” commented the head of Communications and Knowledge Management, Alistair Scrutton. “Communication without language barriers is part of our work philosophy. We want Spanish speakers to find valuable content that helps them understand the complex democratic scenario.”

International IDEA has had a Spanish version of its English website since 2014. However, after the presentation of the new logo and website on 15 December 2023, the Spanish version of the website remained closed to the public, while the platform has now offered an optimal and fresh user experience in 2024.

Approximately 7 per cent of the world's population speaks Spanish, placing this language in the number four position, after Hindi, Mandarin Chinese and English, which occupies the first position, according to data from Statista.com.

The International IDEA website in Spanish, generally oriented towards Latin America and the Caribbean, receives about 250 thousand visits a year. If you have questions, you can contact  info@idea.int
