Gambian National Assembly approves its First Code of Conduct for Members

The Gambian National Assembly formally adopted its first-ever Code of Conduct for its Members. With technical support from International IDEA under the EU-funded CODE Project, the Code of Conduct for the National Assembly was reviewed, validated, and subsequently adopted by Parliament on 24th June 2024.

This is indeed a major milestone for The Gambia being the first National Assembly Code of Conduct since Independence. The document will go a long way in ensuring that members of parliament adhere to the highest ethical standards in their dealings both in and outside of the parliament promoting accountability and fostering public confidence.

The Ethics and Privileges Committee has made a strong commitment to ensuring the full implementation of the code of conduct.

This historic moment has been recognized by the National Assembly as a laudable achievement, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining high ethical standards in their legislative roles.
