The Digital Parties Portal directs political parties to communications solutions

June 02, 2016

Many political parties struggle with utilizing new technologies in their work, whether it is online fundraising or mastering innovative outreach and communication channels. For this reason, International IDEA is proud to launch the Digital Parties Portal - contains the tools a political party needs to work effectively.

On the portal, every listed tool includes a description of how a tool can support a certain party function, how the tool works and which political party has used it previously. The portal contains niche tools used by political parties as well as more mainstream tools that may be useful in the political realm. The tools on the portal were chosen carefully so that they can be used by established and upcoming parties, in contexts with stable internet infrastructure as well as in settings that lack sufficient connectivity.

Our ambition is to help political parties become more effective in almost every area of their work. The portal contains tools relating to traditional party functions including fundraising, outreach, internal and external voting and project management; as well as tools which can be categorized by their technical functions, such as data analysis and management, graphics/visualization, project management, web and content management and social media. In light of the seemingly growing alienation between citizens and their intended political representatives, new technologies offer a path to improve this relationship. Only by improving the interaction between citizens and parties can the latter learn about and address citizens’ priorities – a prerequisite towards socio-economic development and democracy that delivers.
