International IDEA supports electoral transparency demands in Mozambique’s 2023 municipal elections

International IDEA supported a consortium of seven CSOs, called Mais Integridade, that observed the 2023 municipal elections in Mozambique. This support was part of a six-year programme aimed at consolidating democracy in Mozambique, including improving the quality of election observation by civil society, funded by the EU and the Austrian Development Agency.
On election day alone, the consortium deployed 1,689 observers covering a quarter of all polling stations. The consortium also produced an independent evidence-based assessment of the entire electoral process in a politically tense and sometimes hostile context, thus contributing to increased transparency of the elections.
