International IDEA is pleased to invite you to the online launch of our new report, “Combatting Corruption in Political Finance: Global Trends, Challenges and Solutions,” on Wednesday, 23 April 2025, from 15:30 to 17:00 CEST.

About the Report

The report “Combatting Corruption in Political Finance: Global Trends, Challenges and Solutions”, developed by International IDEA, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and supported by the Anti-Corruption and Integrity Sector Programme by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, provides a comprehensive analysis of the global political finance landscape, the challenges in combatting corruption, and emerging innovative solutions.

Why is it important to combat corruption in political finance?

Political finance is essential for democratic governance, enabling parties and candidates to engage with voters, share policies, and participate effectively in elections. However, when transparency and oversight are lacking, political finance becomes a major channel for corruption, distorting democratic processes and eroding public trust.

Despite most countries having regulations in place, significant challenges persist. The report explores measures and good practices that respond to these challenges, including updates to political finance regimes, digital reporting and disclosure mechanisms, the use of AI for oversight, the involvement of civil society, and inter-agency cooperation.

Agenda

This launch event will begin with opening remarks from the Secretary-General of International IDEA and a representative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of Germany. Then, the report’s key findings will be presented, followed by an interactive panel discussion with leading experts from academia, civil society, and a governmental organization.
