Since its establishment 30 years ago, ODIHR has assumed a leading role in the OSCE region in supporting states to strengthen their democratic institutions and respect for human rights, the rule of law as well as creating a platform for civil society to interact with national authorities, ensuring their voice is heard. ODIHR’s unique mandate stems from the commitments made by every OSCE state, and this continues to be the basis of all its work.

On the 30th anniversary of its establishment, ODIHR is convening a two-day conference, from 14 October 2021, 10:00 to15 October 2021, 18:00, to mark the many achievements, consider current challenges and opportunities, and discuss the Office’s role in continuing to help find solutions and promote democracy and human rights in the future. The conference will also allow participants to share experiences and exchange best practices, including new practices during the Covid-19 pandemic, which has affected every person in every country across the region.

14 October 2021, 15:00-17:30

Listen to International IDEA Secretary-General Kevin Casas-Zamora speak on the topic: Genuine democracy as the only legitimate form of governance in the OSCE region.
