Intrigue and Corruption in Vanuatu
The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) invites you to an online panel event, “Intrigue and corruption in Vanuatu” on Thursday, 1 December 2022, 11:00-12:30 GMT +12.
Held as part of the Democratic Development in Melanesia webinar series, this panel discussion focuses on Vanuatu. With a score of 45 on Transparency International's 2021 Corruption Perception Index (CPI), Vanuatu remains stagnant in the rating despite measures taken to address corruption. Since its independence in 1980, Vanuatu has been politically volatile, with frequent motions of no confidence filed against the government. The panellists will discuss the level of corruption in Vanuatu and also look into the anti-corruption measures that are taken up by the authorities and their effectiveness.
