High-level policy dialogue on the geopolitics of Africa's critical mineral resources in Lusaka, Zambia.
International IDEA in collaboration with Southern Africa Resources Watch (SARW) is organising a high-level policy dialogue on the geopolitics of Africa's critical mineral resources in Lusaka, Zambia from 29 to 30 August 2024.

This is International IDEA's second engagement with SARW after the High-Level on Governance of Africa's Mineral Resources, which was held in Gaborone, Botswana.

The objectives of the high-level policy dialogue are of utmost importance, as they aim to:

a.    Probe the nexus between Africa’s critical mineral resources and global geopolitics to secure and control supply chains.
b.    Explore the implications of the global demand for green technologies on Africa’s capacity to localize critical minerals beneficiation.
c.    Interrogate the African state's role and capacity to regulate and develop critical mineral policies and create incentives to attract global and domestic capital.
d.    Assess the role of African CSOs in mobilizing resources, expertise, and knowledge to contribute to a Just Energy Transition process and outcome.

This event is by invitation only.
