Fourth Plenary Assembly - Global Network of Electoral Justice

The Fourth Plenary Assembly will be held virtually on October 21 and 22, 2021! After an atypical year and new challenges faced by the jurisdictional-electoral authorities of the world, this high-level conference is back in charge of the Superior Electoral Court of the Dominican Republic, Presidency of the RMJE, with the support of the Technical Secretariat.

Dr Kevin Casas-Zamora, Secretary-General of International IDEA, will participate in this virtual event with representatives of electoral bodies from more than 30 countries. The secretary-general will intervene during day 1 in the plenary session dedicated to The Current State of Democracy. In view of the states of emergency declared by the authorities of each country, the judicial independence, relationship between the branches of government and electoral practices have adjusted to this new reality. Moreover, a permanent factor in the state of democracy is the real or perceived presence of corruption. In contrast to these new or amplified challenges are the technological tools that bring citizens closer to the authorities, and even more so during the pandemic. Technology has expanded and challenged the mechanisms of representation, as well as the electoral participation and performance of electoral authorities.

Therefore, this meeting will address the global theme of "Democracy and Corruption" from specialized perspectives on "Mechanisms of representation", "Technology and Disinformation", "Judicial Independence amid a pandemic", and "Electoral Processes during COVID-19", among others.
