Elections in COVID-19 Pandemic: Learning from the Republic of Korea

Date
21 April 2020
Time
13.30 - 15.30 Jakarta Time
Location
Zoom

The Republic of Korea conducted major parliamentary elections on 15 April 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to International IDEA's data, more than 70 countries have so far postponed their elections. While the end of the pandemic is not yet in sight, countries are having to start thinking of contingency measures should their elections can no longer be postponed while the pandemic is not yet over.

Indonesia is no exception. There are ongoing political and public debates about until when their head of region elections should be postponed. Learning from the experiences of other countries can help inform the debates about the legal, procedural, administrative and financial considerations necessary in making a decision.

The webinar will feature the recently published International IDEA Technical Paper 2/2020 entitled "Managing Elections under the COVID-19 Pandemic: The Republic of Korea's Crucial Test".

The webinar will be conducted in Bahasa Indonesia and moderated by Ms Erika Wirdyaningsih, Executive Director of Rumah Kebangsaan.

Speakers:

  • Mr Adhy Aman, Senior Programme Manager, Asia & the Pacific, International IDEA
  • Ms Titi Anggraini, Executive Director, Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem)
  • Dr Feri Amsari, Director, Centre for Constitutional Studies, Andalas University
