19th International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) 2020

The 19th International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC2020) will bring together thousands of representatives from civil society, governments, multilateral agencies and private sector, along with young activists, musicians, filmmakers and investigative journalists who are committed to the fight against corruption.

The IACC2020 will feature frank plenary debates,100 interactive sessions, virtual hubs and networking opportunities designed to share innovative anti-corruption measures and ensure that the fight against corruption remains high on the agenda of the post-pandemic world. 

Over six days, more than 500 speakers will explore the theme, "Designing 2030: Truth, Trust & Transparency", participants will hear from experts working on the ground and experimenting with new practices to advance the anti-corruption agenda. 

International IDEA is co-organizing and will present in two of the sessions during the Conference: 

Khushbu Agrawal, Programme Officer for Money in Politics at International IDEA will speak on 30 November 2020, 12:00-13:30 CET during the workshop Defining common principles for political finance: A comparative approach to clean campaigns and parties.

This workshop will explore how corruption in political parties and political campaign finance is tackled in various political and cultural contexts. This comparative approach will bring us to Europe (France, Latvia, Scandinavia), Latin America and the US, looking for common principles and guidelines for clean political campaigns and clean political parties. 

Yukihiko Hamada, Programme Manager for Money in Politics at International IDEA will speak on 1 December 2020, 10:30-12:00 CET during the panel Towards transparent politics: Corruption prevention in parliaments and central governments.

This workshop will discuss the need for keeping public interests at the core of politics and the importance of maintaining trust, respect and support of the public towards public office-holders. Among other issues, the panellists will highlight the need for clear rules on financial transparency and their effective implementation. New challenges for maintaining transparency in political financing posed by online advertisement and crowdfunding will be discussed. In this context, ways of avoiding risks of undue influence on politics and ensuring democratic accountability will be explored.
