The 10th German Nordic Baltic Forum 2018

The focus for this year's German Nordict Baltic Forum is "EU 4.0: New Momentum for Europe". Over two days, the Forum is organized by Institut für Europäische Politik (IEP) and Utrikespolitiska Institutet (UI). The Forum covers topics such as EU cybersecurity and defence, European security after Brexit, the EU's Multi-Annual Financial Framework (2021-2027), the issue of EU democracy, and participation and communication. Speakers include diplomats, academics and researchers, and policymakers from the Baltic region and Germany.

Annika Silva-Leander, Head of the Democratic Assessment and Political Analysis (DAPA) Unit, will speak on the state of EU democracy, and the need and mechanisms for engaging citizens in the democratic process. She will also present data illustrating trends of direct democracy in the EU over time, using data from International IDEA's Global State of Democracy (GSoD) Indices.
