Chapter II Article 8.

A judicial Committee called “the Supreme Judiciary Committee for elections” is established. It is based in Damascus. It is responsible for managing elections and referendum, supervising the elections of People's Assembly and local administrative councils, and taking all necessary action to ensure its free practice, its integrity and impartiality. It is independent in its work from any other authority.

The Committee consists of seven members nominated by the Supreme Judicial Council from among the counselors of the Court of Cassation, and like them as a reserve list. A decree may be issued to establish the committee and determine compensation of its members.

The members of the committee are not liable to dismissal. In the event of a vacancy in the membership of the committee for any reason, it shall be replaced by the most senior judge in the reserve list.

The Committee exercises its tasks and competences in full independence, impartiality and transparency. It is prohibited for any quarter to intervene in its affairs and its functions or to limit its powers.
