Peru
Democracy in Peru faces constant threats due to institutional weakness and political corruption, aggravated by social and economic inequalities as well as the impact of fake news and misinformation.
Our mission in Peru focuses on strengthening political institutions through regulatory reforms that improve the representation of elected authorities and the transparency of the processes. We also provide technical assistance to electoral bodies.
In collaboration with collectives representing traditionally excluded groups, we seek to strengthen their rights, especially in terms of political participation. We promote the creation of spaces for dialogue and participation between authorities and social actors who have difficulties making their demands heard in decision-making processes.
In addition, International IDEA provides information and training to actors involved in the political system, such as electoral agency workers, journalists, and activists.
Finally, in alliance with various institutions, we develop campaigns to promote democratic values among citizens, both in traditional media and through alternative media and activism, empowering citizens and fostering a society that is more informed and committed to the political life of the country.
