Ever since January 1999, biometric technology is used when issuing personal identification documents as a means of preventing the attempts of impersonation. At first, only two fingerprints were automatically verified. In August 2008, the facial recognition was included as additional automatic identity verification, and it is expected that in the future iris recognition will also be used. A third innovation took place in March 2010 with the scanning of all 10 fingerprints.
