Sophia Guruli
Sophia Guruli is the Senior Programme Officer for INTER PARES | Parliaments in Partnership - EU Global Project to Strengthen the Capacity of Parliaments.
Sophia joined International IDEA in July 2023
She leads the implementation of several peer-to-peer partnerships between specific EU Member State Parliaments and partner parliaments. She also coordinates project strategy, actions and initiatives in selected thematic focus areas, including citizen engagement and human rights. She additionally contributes to the production of the project’s knowledge resources and tools.
Sophia Guruli has over 15 years of experience in the field of parliamentary development. Having started her career as a parliamentary staff in her home country (Georgia), she has subsequently worked at international organizations, where she contributed to the strengthening of the role and functions of the Parliament of Georgia. Before joining the International IDEA, Sophia managed UNDP’s parliamentary projects in Georgia with a primary focus on institutional reforms and capacity development.
Sophia is also an experienced project manager, having spent the last 10 years on designing and implementing EU-funded projects at UNDP and UNOPS. Sophie holds an LLM in Comparative Constitutional Law from the Central European University in Budapest, Hungary and a Law Degree from Tbilisi State University.
