Irene Postigo Sanchez

Associate Programme Officer

Irene Postigo Sánchez is an Associate Programme Officer in International IDEA’s Democracy Assessment Unit. She joined in May 2024 and works as part of the team producing the Global State of Democracy (GSoD) Initiative. Her research is principally focused on democracy and human rights in Western Asia and North Africa.

Prior to joining the Democracy Assessment Unit, Irene served as a senior consultant in a professional services firm, delivering on forensic and sustainability services, including international sanctions and human rights due diligence. She has also worked for international organisations such as the Council of the European Union, the International Criminal Court, and the Office of the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon in political affairs as well as research and analysis roles focused on the Levant and the Gulf.

Irene was a recipient of the Bachelor's Degree Extraordinary Award by the University of Deusto for her studies in International Relations.
