Gavin Charles is the Speechwriter & Governance Officer in the Secretary-General's Office, Stockholm. He leads writing of the Secretary-General’s external speeches, coordinates the Secretary-General’s international engagements, and helps shape the Institute’s strategic communications and advocacy.

Gavin joined International IDEA in 2022. He was previously based in Canada, where he advised the shadow foreign minister, led the policy team at the national association of development and humanitarian organizations, and worked as an international security policy analyst in the federal public service. Throughout his career, he has focused on advancing sustainable and positive changes in government policy, organizational strategy, and stakeholder relations.
