Official launch of the digital campaign against hate messages on social media

The Minister of National Reconciliation and Social Cohesion, Abderaman Koulamallah, set the tone for the campaign.

Through its Chad’s Programme, International IDEA launched a digital campaign against hate messages and rumours on social networks on Wednesday, 12 April 2023, in N'Djaména. The Minister of National Reconciliation and Social Cohesion, Abderaman Koulamallah, set the tone for the campaign.

For him, this campaign makes sense in the current context where living together and social cohesion in Chad are suffering from a depression that must be fought effectively. "I do not doubt that this campaign will contribute to limiting the spread of messages of hatred and false rumours, which your professionalism will help to replace with messages of peace and tolerance", he said.

Representing the Head of Chad’s Programme, Ms Mariama Gamatié Bayard, Senior Programme Officer in Mediation, noted that social media should be a vehicle for building a nation of peace and progress. She underlined a concern that, unfortunately, Internet users are making calls for violence, incitement to hatred and disinformation. For her, this campaign will certainly contribute to limiting the spread of hate messages and false rumours with the sharing of messages of peace and tolerance.

It is also worth noting that the ceremony was attended by almost all online media, traditional media, influencers and bloggers of Chad.

Launched for a period of three months, the campaign has a website and five social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok) and involves some twenty online media.
